For the last three years, the Global Frackdown initiative has played an important role in connecting the collective movement against fracking and elevating the call to ban fracking and related infrastructure and processes. It has shed light on the need to keep fossil fuels in the ground, while moving toward a 100% renewable energy future.

One of the ways to join this initiative is to have your organization sign on to the 2015 Global Frackdown?

With the United Nations climate talks in Paris happening this December is a major focus of the movement internationally. This year, the Global Frackdown (GF) will be a little different from past years. Rather than hold a single day of action around fracking, several simultaneous activities are planned.

First, GF is circulating a sign-on letter to world leaders that calls for a ban on fracking, keeping fossil fuels in the ground, and moving to 100% renewable energy as part of the Paris talks. GF hopes to gather an extraordinarily large number of groups signing onto this letter. Signing the letter also signs your group up as a partner in this year`s Global Frackdown. GF hopes that this letter can be used to help frame the debate about climate and fracking heading into Paris.

Second, GF is recognizing the month of November as the Global Frackdown to Paris. At the end of October, GF will close signatures to the Global Frackdown letter. In November, organizations are encouraged to deliver the letter to their national, regional and local other leaders, particularly those who may be attending the Paris meetings. We also encourage groups to relate antifracking activities occurring during November to the Global Frackdown.

In the coming months, GF will have more information about all planned activities, including sharing images of delivery actions, social media and the like.

The Paris talks come at a critical time for the GF movement, and the planet. Antifracking activists express the need to take their strong and internationally growing message to leaders in Paris. In framing the debate, they emphasize that the climate crisis cannot be solved as long as increasing quantities of fossil fuels are extracted by more and more extreme methods; that the world needs to invest in sustainable renewable energy and stop building dirty oil and gas pipelines, export facilities and other related infrastructure.
