17 March 2009 UN Habitat mission & aftermath

On 17th March 2009, few hours after the UN-HABITAT/Federal Government Mission had departed from Port Harcourt; the state governor publicly declared that there was no going back from the forceful acquisition and demolition of houses in Port Harcourt. To actualize his threat, the state government proceeded (the following day) to demolish the whole structures at the Railway axis of Port Harcourt without giving the occupants at least ?one minute? notice. This action threw many people out of accommodation and rendered more than 10,000 market women jobless.
