Brief narrative |
The neighbourhood watch committee in Wenfeng, Suizhou City in Hubei Province have forcibly demolished 78 home after residents refused to move due to inadequate compensation schemes. The remaining residents are still putting up their fights. The authorities are using every means possible to force the residents to move, leaving one resident who was forced to sign an agreement to move with mental disorder. In order to make residents agree to the demolition and relocation agreement, Suizhou city government has asked residents to sign before allowing them to go to work. During this time, one resident Deng Zhejuan became mentally unstable after signing the agreement. Another resident Deng Fa said that they were not given the plans and their homes were forcibly demolished. We found out it was all a lie, and one person was pushed to insanity. They come to your homes to force you to sign, and wont take no for an answer, those with a job, they stop you from going to work. We petition to the government, those in charge detain and beat us to force us to sign. If they beat someone to death they’ll pay you $60000 compensation, those in charge are let off.” Resident Deng Chunhua who had a restaurant on a busy main road said that her home was for commercial use, and asked for higher compensation which was refused. She then refused to sign, and the Tax authorities threatened them with investigations, with other authorities coming to her home to threaten her with demolition. Another resident Yi Qianguo says that the two homes he owns are on larger land, and asked for monetary compensation which was refused. He said that we have proof of ownership but we cant sue anyone, we’re afraid of repercussions. Source: SOH Newsdesk | ||||||||
