Brief narrative |
The Papua New Guinea government has razed homes in the Tetu squatter settlement outside the capital of Port Moresby. The demolition of 50 homes was in response to the murder of businessman Sir George Constantinou by residents of the settlement. Residents were given two to three days to evacuate and there is no indication that compensation will be provided. The Papua New Guinea Ombudsman has declared the police action to have been "beyond the law".
