Brief narrative |
Source: COHRE Global Survey 2003-2006 found at http://www.cohre.org/store/attachments/Global_Survey_10.pdf In March 2004, 30 indigenous families from the Guarana, Kola and Wichi communities were evicted by the orders of a local judge in Oran. Another 60 families were under threat of eviction. The indigenous groups have been living in the area for over 30 years. Without any prior notice, police arrived at their houses and started destroying homes. The families had been dependent on small scale agriculture, but lost everything during the eviction, which left them homeless and without their livelihoods. | ||||||||||
