Brief narrative

Around 15,000 people of the community have been forced by the indigenous Khasis to leave Meghalaya, a northeastern state of India, after the clashes between the indigenous Khasis and ethnic Nepalis mid-May.

Twenty five percent of Nepali speakers residing in Meghalaya have been displaced in the wake of violence. The displaced are taking refuge in Assam including Karbi-Anglong, Siltar, Boko and Jayanti Hills. Sources said another indigenous group, the Garos, has also started attacking Nepali speakers.
