Brief narrative | Authorities with bulldozers and 1,500 riot police appeared in Bakay shantytown, in Almaty, and demolished what they claimed were illegally built houses. Residents were given little notice of the planned eviction, and 350 to 400 houses were bulldozed with their belongings still inside. Residents claimed that the vast majority of evictions were not legally justified, as bailiffs presented court orders related to only 29 houses. | ||||||||
